jEFFREYS BAY

SOUTH AFRICA

Jeffreys Bay is a small coastal town in Eastern Cape, South Africa. It is synonomous with perfection as it boasts with some of the best surfing real estate in the world.

A colorful town with an eclectic mix of people – it is a place not without its challenges. As with most towns in South Africa, venture past the shops and boutiques of The Surf Village and you will find a stark difference in the socio-economic realities of people. Many Jbay residents have never stepped across the ‘invisible line’ that divides so many of our lives. It is exactly here where Aleph Surf chose to setup our container.

Surfing is used as the language and common denominator to bring people together.

Its is from this space where local leaders meet with Jbay youth every week teaching lifeskills, leading devotionals and runnings surfing lessons from. The leaders were students themselves years ago and paying it forward by being mentors to the next up and coming generation. We partner with local schools and churches to make sure we have enough community support for the youth.

Jeffreys Bay is also our base of operations for the rest of Africa and Middle East mission.

aleph baja

La Misión, mexico

Aleph Baja is based in La Misión, a small coastal town north of Ensenada, Mexico. The project is led by Dustin and Jess Punches and exists to support youth and families through leadership mentoring and restorative outdoor recreation programs like surfing and rock climbing.

Many young people in Northern Baja face hard realities every day ranging from poverty to broken family situations to limited education. All too often, access to destructive coping mechanisms like drugs and alcohol are more readily available than access to healthy outdoor activities which can help youth build resilience and a deeper sense of belonging.

Aleph Baja is all about inviting youth to learn and experience new possibilities for themselves in the outdoors. Whether it’s learning how to swim, stand up on a wave for the first time, or reach the top of a hard climb, the underlying impact is an experience of success and empowerment. Aleph programs teach trust, self-discipline, perseverance and overcoming fears―experiential lessons which apply to everyday life. We also practice and model environmental stewardship. When people experience joy in nature, our eyes are opened to the importance of protecting the outdoor spaces.

Building supportive relationships is at the core of this work. Every young person has a need to feel loved and supported by caring adults in their life. Jesus said, “I have come that you may have life and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). At the end of the day our hope and vision is simple: we want to see young people thrive.

Through working together with churches and other community development organizations we seek to form a network of support for young people facing adversity.

Based in La Misión, a small coastal town north of Ensenada, Aleph Baja exists to support youth and families through leadership training and restorative outdoor recreation programs like surfing and rock climbing.

Beira

MOzambique

On the 25th of January, Beira, Mozambique got hit by Cyclone Eloise. This had a devastating impact on the local communities. Hundreds of houses were fully destroyed, others badly damaged, and the city was flooded. Because of the floodwaters, there is also a high risk of cholera outbreaks and malaria.

Storms of this severity are unfortunately nothing new to Mozambique. Two years ago, Cyclone Idai caused catastrophic damage to large portions of the country.  Aleph Surf partnered with Groundswell aid and other local organizations, actioned thousands of dollars of aid in the form of food packets and water filters. Thankfully, those filters are still in use and are providing clean drinking water in this difficult time.

We are partnering up with Young Life Mozambique  to coordinate the relief locally in Beira. Groundswell Aid is helping to raise money to assist the victims of Cyclone Eloise. The need is for food parcels and cholera kits, and to repair and replace roofs that have been destroyed.

Would you consider a special gift to support the people of Beira, Mozambique?

A donation of any amount will help those in need.

Our goal is to raise funds for 100 food parcels, help 10 household with a new panels and and 10 with entire new roof structures. Please donate through the Groundswell aid platform here
