THE SEWING ROOM

Due to the sensitivity of this matter, I can not divulge too much about the identity or information of the individuals I worked with while in the Middle East. But I do want to boast that partnering with these beautiful women has been one of my life’s most endearing and inspiring experiences.

The Syrian Civil War was horrific and surviving it came at an immeasurable loss. This woman kept her head high and endured. The hope of better days and staying together as a family fueled her survival.

Being able to train her, partner together and find the avenues for her products is how we could assist. She has taken every opportunity that came her way and now her small business is starting to grow locally.

If you would like to support this small business we are currently fundraising for a sewing room.

This amazing women has 10 children between ages 2 and 17 of whom 2 have disabilities. Living in a 2-bedroom-house in a small village,  there is no space for her industrial machine.  If we could contribute to the rent of a sewing room, she would be able to earn enough money that in the future her family could afford a bigger home and then have the sewing room in her home.   This would give her every opportunity to work between changing diapers, cooking and helping her kids study.

Thank you for your generosity!

In early October I got to spend a week with 15 students that were a part of a local program called Pulse.  Pulse helps underprivileged communities through a holistic approach by helping address their physical, emotional, metal and spiritual needs.

Within a six week program Pulse invests in students self confidence by focusing on various skills, which enable them to understand that they have a calling and purpose to add value to this world.

By establishing self- confidence, the students believe in themselves and understand themselves better, which encourages them to use their personalities and giftings to contribute to their communities.

We have seen that students who have attended life skills programs like Pulse or  Aleph Surfs be transformed as people.   Resulting in a change in their behavior, gaining a positive attitude on life and motivation to empower themselves and others around them.

Within the 6 week program I got one of the weeks to teach sewing basics.  This included training in basic flat patterns that could be made off of their own clothing, hand sewing and alterations, as well as how to use a basic sewing machine.

I am constantly reminded that women are the same universally.  We all like to feel beautiful and wear a beautiful clothing and there is something special about being able to make your own.  At the end of the week many of the women could make clothes for themselves and their children.  They can utilize these sewing skills to empower themselves by making a business from home creating school uniforms, altering clothes or whatever their creative spirits design.

It was an amazing time & we look forward to partnering with Pulse again.  Here are some highlights!  Hope you enjoy!
